Our Mission

First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma is a family of believers united by our love of Jesus Christ and our desire to be his disciples. Our relationship with God strengthens us and gives our lives purpose and direction. We welcome all people so that they may experience God’s love and grace in a Christ-centered community and join us as we reach out to our world with the love of Jesus Christ.

Our Vision Goals

We will provide opportunities for worshiping God with heart, soul and mind. We will uphold our essential heritage as we express our praise to God through a variety of experiences and expressions, seeking to include an ever-expanding people of God.

Guiding Scripture: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment." - Matthew 22:37-38 (NIV)

We will maintain, enhance and expand facilities that are safe, inviting and accessible, to support the church’s expanding ministry.

Guiding Scripture: "The people of Israel, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and oil to the storerooms where the articles for the sanctuary are kept and where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the singers stay. 'We will not neglect the house of our God.'" - Nehemiah 10:39

We are committed to Christ-centered learning that helps children, youth, and adults study and apply biblical principles to daily living.

Guiding Scripture: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer…Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." - Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)

We will focus on developing and empowering lay leadership and professional staff so we are equipped for effective ministry through teams, which balance freedom and accountability.

Guiding Scripture: "You have heard me teach many things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Teach these great truths to trustworthy people who are able to pass them on to others." - 2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT)

We will provide a warm, caring and engaging community to support spiritual growth, fellowship, and love throughout all phases of our lives.

Guiding Scripture: "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:23-25 (NIV)

In our mission to Petaluma and the greater world community, we will share our walk with God with team ministries of compassion and hope, which help us effectively communicate God’s grace through our words and actions.

Guiding Scripture: "Love your neighbor as yourself." - Matthew 22:39 (NIV)

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." - Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)
