First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma is looking for a full-time Director for our preschool, Happy Day Presbyterian School. Happy Day ministers to 75+ children with programs for age 3 through Pre-Kindergarten. Happy Day has earned a reputation, over 32 years, for providing safe and loving care for children as they develop their foundation for education in a Christian environment.
Happy Day Presbyterian School is a ministry of First Presbyterian Church, sharing the love and grace of God through its preschool, reaching out to members of the Petaluma community.
The Purpose of Happy Day Presbyterian School is to provide a supportive and nurturing Christian environment where the child realizes God’s love and experiences the value and joy of playing and learning in harmony with others.
The Director manages the day-to-day operations of Happy Day Presbyterian School in accordance with the church's mission, vision, and financial resources and the State of California Child Care Licensing Office.
Major areas of responsibilities include:
- Oversee three preschool classrooms (3-year-old, 4-year-old and Pre-Kindergarten) curriculum and enrollment.
- Hire, train and supervise staff
- Work with parents and families
- Coordinate preschool with other church programs
- Develop and oversee the preschool budget
- Ensure health and safety of children
- Occasional teaching in the classroom
A qualified director will:
- Possess experience in teaching, leadership and administration of a preschool, preferably in a Christian environment.
- Fulfill all education and employment qualifications required by the Child Care Licensing Office, California Department of Social Services
- Demonstrate Christian faith, maturity and active participation in church.
- Demonstrate a passion for children and a desire to nurture and equip them in a Christian context
- Possess strong organizational, relational and communication skills, with both children and adults.
- Demonstrate proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, E-mail.
- Demonstrate a commitment to spiritual and personal growth and continued professional growth as required by Child Care Licensing Office

Children's Sunday School Director

First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma is looking for a part-time Children’s Sunday School Director who has a strong Christian faith and a passion for Children’s Ministry. Responsibilities include: Research and develop Children’s Sunday School (Age 3 – 6th grade) to provide learning and practicing the teaching of Jesus Christ, recruit, train and support teachers and volunteers for children's Sunday School classes during both worship hours. A Position Description may be obtained from the Church Office or website.
This position is 10 hours per week, and requires working on Sundays. A qualified candidate will demonstrate Christian faith and maturity. The Director of Children’s Sunday School will possess a strong Christian background with experience and /or education in children’s education. S/he will have the ability to work with both children and adult volunteers. S/he will possess good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize the work and the ability to provide leadership. Annual Salary: $9,360.
