What We Do and Why:
This year Happy Day Presbyterian School celebrates its 30th Anniversary! For three decades, its dedicated staff has worked with pre-school and Kindergarten children of church members and of the wider Petaluma community at this most important stage of development. Over the years, thousands of children and families in our community have benefited from Happy Day’s caring teachers, developmentally appropriate curricula, and core Christian values, preparing children for elementary school and, beyond that, a lifetime of learning.
Happy Day currently has programs for 3 year-olds, 4 year-olds, and two levels of Kindergarten, serving a total of approximately 150 children. In the fall of 2006, the school will expand its program to offer first grade and a one morning per week program for two year-olds and their parents. In addition to its core curriculum which includes science, language arts and math, the school provides programs in Spanish and music that allow children to explore a variety of interests.
Recognizing its excellent program and leadership, the California State Department of Education, through an extensive review and evaluation process, has designated Happy Day School as a Mentor School and Shirley Caine as a Mentor Director. In addition, former lead teacher Lorraine Haas and current coordinator Maureen Bush have been designated as Mentor Teachers, enabling them to supervise teachers in training as they complete their education process. |
Who is Involved:
Maureen Bush is Acting Director of Happy Day. Maureen has been the Lead Teacher for the Adventure Room.
Karyl Crook may be the first voice a parent hears when inquiring about the school. Karyl manages the office.
Mike Sloan was Elder for Happy Day (through 2006), representing the school with the Session. The Happy Day Commission provides leadership and oversight for the school.
How You Can Help:
Each spring, Happy Day parents and staff devote hundreds of hours to the school’s major fundraiser, this year entitled, “Savor: A Toast to our Town,” in recognition of the community’s support of Happy Day throughout the years. The event is an evening of wine and food tasting, music, and live and silent auctions. The money raised this year will be used, in large part, for facilities development which will benefit both the church and the school. We would like to encourage members and friends of the church to attend this special evening on Saturday, May 20th, and to donate items for the silent and/or live auction.
