10 Days of Prayer and Ministry

Prayer

From National Day of Prayer to Pentecost, and the Global Day of Prayer.
Since a humble beginning in 2001 with 45 000 Christians in Cape Town, South Africa, the Global Day of Prayer has swept across the face of the earth like a wild fire. In 2007 this mighty move of God reached Christians from 204 nations, where young and old cried out to God for their nation and generation. It was undoubtedly the largest prayer meeting planet Earth has ever seen.
PrayerThis year we invite you to break that record and trust God for all 220 nations of the earth to be part of an unprecedented day of repentance and prayer. On 11 May 2008, as the sun rises across each time zone, you will be joining millions of other Christians responding to the challenging words of 2 Chronicles 7:14…
“If my people, who are call by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (NIV)
Be sure to pick up your prayer guide at church, Sundays, and pray with us – and with millions around the world for our cities and our world. Prayer guides are also available online – for adults, youth and children: www.gdop-usa.com

FPCP in the Butter and Eggs Parade

BE Parade

We're Celebrating: 125

We had some great celebration times the morning and evening of April 20. Then we walked in the Petaluma Butter and Eggs Parade, April 26. We had our Happy Day presence in the new Children’s parade and an anniversary entry in the main parade.

The culmination of our celebration is still ahead oAnniversaryf us: July 5 & 6. We will have an event Saturday night, followed by Sunday worship on the lawn with former pastors and families. Former members will be invited to join with our current members and attendees, so mark you calendar and don’t miss it.

Many thanks to our great Anniversary Celebration Team, headed by Cindy Newsom and Keith Lew. You can still help by volunteering with one of the teams. Also, if you have any pictures of the church in action in days gone by, we would love to borrow them so we can make copies. Also, we would love to see bulletins, newsletters, hymnbooks, sermon tapes or other artifacts from FPCP’s past days.

Our hope throughout is that as we celebrate God’s faithfulness in the past, we will grow in confidence that God will provide in our future. “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good (past); His love endures forever (future). Psalm 136:1.

Happy April Fools Day

DaveDon't believe everything you read in your email Inbox - especially our April 1 (April Fools) edition of our email news.

We did not change the name of the church, there was no literal fire (though we pray for revival), we are still looking for the right Youth Director, we're still First Presbyterian and I'm driving my new Sentra.

... but, I did shave the beard. Sometimes, democracy works! Hopefully, I won't be confused for the Unabomber anymore. And, we have a guest preacher this Sunday, which gives me a little (maybe too much) time on my hands.

Seriously though,

"He is no fool, who gives what he cannot keep
to gain what he cannot lose."
-Jim Elliott, missionary & martyr

Revised Children and Youth Safety Policies and Procedures for Volunteers

But Jesus called the children to him and said,
Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. - Luke 18:16

As a faith community, First Presbyterian Church is committed to providing a safe and secure place where all children, youth and adults are nurtured and protected as they explore and grow in their faith in God. Nurture and protection thrive in a supportive community of acceptance, openness and trust. Abuse and harassment are contrary to Christian community. Therefore, First Presbyterian Church will maintain policies and procedures that will direct the reporting, investigation and intervention for issues of child abuse, harassment and sexual harassment. The Session will review these procedures annually to see that policies correspond to changes in both the civil law and the congregational organization.
(from By-Laws of the Congregation/Corporation - First Presbyterian Church Of Petaluma, rev. Aug. 8, 2004)

The Session approved a revised policy and procedures for volunteers who work with children and youth that took effect Jan. 1. If you have already been background-checked, there is no need to be checked again. However, we have added policies for those who drive children and youth to church-sponsored events. In addition, two new applications take the place of the previous application. One application is for adults who will be working with children and youth. The second application is for minors (under age 18) who will be working with children. We are very grateful to Suzana Weltken and the Child Safety Committee, which has been working throughout 2007 on these revisions.
Please read the new policies and do your part in making our campus a safe place for children and youth to grow in their faith. They are available in the church office and online on our Forms Page. http://www.petalumafirst.com/resources/forms.shtml
